As the new-year begins, people set resolutions. Why not make it your resolution to incorporate self-care into everyday life? In this fast paced world we live in, it can be hard to take a moment for yourself. It may seem like another thing on your 'to-do' list. However, taking time to focus on YOU can be just as important.
Self-care is taking care of yourself in a way that is meaningful to you. It can be blasting your favorite song in the car, treating yourself to your favorite coffee drink, talking to a therapist, doing yoga, or breaking a sweat. The list is endless. By taking time out of your day, you can reduce stress and anxiety, reduce feelings of depression, and maintain healthy relationships.
Contrary to popular belief, self-care is not being selfish. In order for you to take care of your daily responsibilities, such as helping the kids with homework, or preparing for an important presentation at work, you have to be able to take care of yourself so that you can be fully present for those responsibilities.
Self-care also refers to setting mental boundaries for yourself and your relationships with others. Sometimes, by saying “no,” you are saying “yes” to self-care and creating space for YOU.
Make YOU a priority this year and for years to come.
